Welcome to Vale farm located near to both Shaftesbury and Blandford in Dorset. Set in the heart of the beautiful
Blackmoor Vale, the Farm was once a fully functioning Dairy Farm with a herd of over 300 pedigree Holstein cows
which produced thousands of litres of milk a year.
With the dairy herd recently sold, Vale Farm has had a complete change in direction and alongside being a working
arable farm is also now pleased to be home to a large herd of several different breeds of donkey.
These delightful animals vary from the world's smallest to the world's largest! We are home to both rare breeds and
rare colours. We have Mediterranean Miniatures, American loud spotted standards, coloured standards, Baudet du
Poitou, and American Mammoths. We also have a couple of unusual mixes!
We welcome visitors by appointment to come here and learn about the animals and maybe even book a ride on one of
the donkeys.

We do also have a lovely nature trail dotted with nature/habitat information signs, a picnic area and lake
complete with black swans and ducks, WC facilities, and also an area where light refreshments can be purchased.

There are also free range guinea pigs and guinea fowl, a beautiful, friendly pair of pygmy goats, Rambo our Jacobs
sheep, a couple of Exmoor ponies a gang of spaniels and some pedigree Siamese and Oriental cats!
We specialise in the rare breed American Mammoth Jackstock riding donkeys. These are the world's largest breed of
donkey. The Mammoths are incredibly strong, but like their other donkey relatives are still exceptionally gentle
and people friendly and are very calm animals to ride out on. We have 8 trail riding trained Mammoth Jennys that
are available for booked rides these vary in personality to suit the riders abilities. We also have gentle,
smaller, standard donkeys for the very little ones to have a ride on. Weight limits do apply per donkey.
Altogether we have 10 Mammoth Jennies and also 2 stunning young Jacks who will soon be available for stud to
approved Jennies. We expect our first foals in the spring 2010 - watch out for pictures!
Private Event Hire:
Some of our mammoth donkeys are available for hire for special events such as, television productions,
photographers, theatre, Church productions and fêtes etc.
They are incredibly well behaved in large crowds and in both the countryside or city.
The pictures show Dolly, a 14.2 mammoth donkey, in the production of the "Way of the Cross" in
Salisbury city centre on Good Friday 2010. She was a superstar and took the hundreds of people and loud noises
in her stride.
