- We are very pleased to announce the arrival from the USA of our rare breed American Mammoth Jackstock Riding Donkeys. (Our thanks to Bill and Gina Garrett and family, and also to Billy and Laura Adamson and family of B and L Farms, Texas for supplying us with these wonderful animals.)
The American Mammoth is the worlds largest breed of donkey. The breed was originally developed several centuries ago by breeding the largest breeds of European donkeys with native American and Mexican Burros. These enormous donkeys were used to produce incredibly large and powerful mules. In 1888 the American Mammoth Jackstock registry was set up to monitor and facilitate the breed. It still exists today.
In the USA the merits of using Mammoth donkeys for Trail riding has been widely acknowledged, with many seasoned trail riders opting to use the strong but calm and intelligent Mammoth donkey as their choice of ride.
Our fabulous donkeys here at Vale Farm have been chosen for their health, size and temperaments. They have been bred and trail-trained by renowned American Jackstock breeders. The donkeys come in a variety of colors, each with its own totally individual personality, however one thing that they do all have in common is their calm and gentle natures and their willingness to please.
Our donkeys are suitable for nearly all ages and abilities and are a wonderful way for the whole family to enjoy the outdoors together.
Riding out on your chosen donkey, seated on a comfortable western saddle and escorted by a guide, we have a variety of routes - many totally off-road over Privately owned land. Your steady and sure footed mount will soon have you relaxed enough to be able to truly enjoy the stunning North Dorset countryside.
After returning safely from your ride we think that you too will understand why more and more people who discover the Mammoth are falling in love with this wonderful rare and gentle giant.

The pictures show Dolly, a 14.2 mammoth donkey, in the production of the "Way of the Cross" in Salisbury city centre on Good Friday 2010. She was a superstar and took the hundreds of people and loud noises in her stride.
