Thomas Hardy, the renowned English Victorian novelist, was born in this beautiful thatched cottage at Higher
Bockhampton near Dorchester in 1840. Shown here in the summer, it was in this cottage he wrote many of his novels
including 'Far From the Madding Crowd', 'Under the Greenwood Tree' and 'Desperate
Remedies'.
